It's time for another fun challenge at AAA Cards and this week it is all about Spectacular Embossing!
There are so many different techniques that you can do with embossing - whether you chose dry embossing or heat embossing or even faux embossing using die cuts - the biggest challenge will be deciding which one to go with!
For my card(s), I challenged myself to try something different so I did some dry embossing detailed with some Pearl Ex pigment.
For my first card, I started with some Simon Says Slate card stock and I used the Tim Holtz Winter Berries embossing folder. I then mixed my Pearl Ex powder with a little bit of gum arabic to create a liquid that I painted on top of the embossed areas. It creates a really cool shimmer that I absolutely love. I finished the card with a piece of torn vellum and a heat embossed Clearly Besotted greeting. The whole panel was popped up on a Slate card base.
For my second embossed card, I decided to get more adventurous with the same technique by dry embossing and "painting" vellum instead of card stock. I used the Sizzix Flowers and Flourish embossing folder with Interference Gold Pearl Ex and I absolutely loved the effect. I heat embossed a Clearly Besotted greeting in gold then I stitched the vellum panel to a cream card base with gold thread after sandwiching in a few coloured sequins. A flat, easily mailed shaker card! I have to say that this is one of my favourite cards lately - I really couldn't get the camera to do it justice. This "new to me" technique is definitely something that I will be doing more of...

You have inspired me to drag out my Pearl Ex powders. Both cards are so gorgeous, Jill. I love the effect of the pear Ex painted on the embossed images. Gun Arabic is now in my SSS Shopping cart! Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeletei love the black one with the twigs, it's so stylish and effective
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love that you are so open to trying new techniques. Both your cards are amazing, but the twiggy grey one just edges into being my favourite.
ReplyDelete2 stunning cards Jill and I can't pick a favourite as they are both unique and fabulous. 2 brilliant ways to showcase embossing and equally perfect. Sarah
ReplyDeleteWow! These are both great! I love both of them. They are entirely different, but both are so uniquely pretty. I couldn't choose a favorite either. Maybe the grey one? Not sure. Loveliness all around. Pearl Ex and Gum Arabic are headed into a few shopping carts! Oh & thanks for the kind words and the link to my blog too. :)
