The challenge this fortnight at TIME OUT is to be inspired by the following words:
There are a lot of ways to be inspired by these words but I chose to focus on the first one: smile:
To make this card, I used one of my favourite techniques - adhering die cuts to the card base to create a background. I usually do this tone on tone - but I decided to change it up this time by using four different colours of cardstock to create an ombre effect. I think that I may have seen this done before by someone with this die but I couldn't find where - so I couldn`t reference it. The die is from Simon Says Stamp.
The greeting is from MFT - white embossed on a black die cut (also MFT) and popped up with some foam. I found a few different shades of pink sequins in my stash and added them to the card front to finish it off.
Our sponsor for this challenge is Funky Fossil Designs - Sarah is a former TO DT and she has started designing some amazing stencils - check them out here. She is offering the winner 3 stencils from her store. She is also going to be joining us as a special guest designer - so make sure to check out her inspiring designs here.
Our Guest designer for this challenge is Amanda from Diamond Lane Designs - so make sure you take a few minutes to check out her work.
Thanks for stopping by!

The ombre-effect gives this card a great warm feel! Love the graphic effect of the repeated die cuts! Hugs, Gerrina
ReplyDeleteThe ombre effect really works and I love the colour you went for! Good idea to pop up the sentiment like this, really works. And your placement of sequins is perfect x
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning, Jill! I love the ombre look of the die cuts and it was a super choice to cover a whole background with them. I have a flower die that has a very odd shape and this has given me ideas how to use it... Thanks for the inspiration! xxx
ReplyDeleteWow Jill, what a masterpiece I have always thought to do something like this with my Smile die but I am terrible with glue and dies ending up with dots of glue everywhere. Your card looks amazing, totally love it.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome, Jill. What a great idea to repeat the die cut with an ombre affect. I just love it! And the black banner for the sentiment is the perfect finish. I'm saving this one for duture reference! xx
ReplyDeleteI love this design Jill, especially done in the different color cardstocks! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely adore your ombre line up of die cuts. I just keep thinking that is a lot of hand cranking and lining up, but it is sure worth it.
ReplyDeleteI'm smiling, Jill ... first because this is such a brilliant design ... love the ombré in those happy die cuts ... and second because I almost used this die on my card too, before little chick jumped out at me! Hugs, Anita :)
