This week, I challenged myself to not only use die cutting - but to "stretch my dies" and use some of my co-coordinating as stand alone images. I thought the whale from Clearly Besotted would be perfect for this and here is what I came up with:
I die cut the whale and the spray from white cardstock and sponged them with Distress Inks (I used my new favourite, Hickory Smoke, for the whale!). I then created the background using the SSS Stitched rectangle die, the CB wave die, some inlaid die cutting and some more Distress Ink sponging. I also die cut two more layers of waves - one from white cardstock that was sponged with Distress Ink, and one from vellum that I used for the greeting (embossed in Liquid Platinum).
And then for the assembling. Believe it or not, this card only has one layer or dimensional adhesive - the frame, whale, spray and dark water are all popped up. Finishing touches were a googly eye, a hand drawn smile, and a generous coating of Wink of Stella for the whale.
While my supplies were out, I also came up with a couple of cards using the negative of the whale cuts as well:
For the first card, I used a Be Creative adhesive sheet and some microfine glitter to create the card. And for the second card, I used some acetate and alcohol inks to create a fun semi-transparent card front. I did have to double up the inked acetate behind the whale so that the greeting would show up a little bit more (it was stamped in white Stayz On).
So now it's your turn to play along - but before you do, please check out the other DT creations where you're sure to find lots of inspirational ideas!
