TIME OUT #60 - CASEing Therese Calvrid

Our challenge this week is a CASE challenge - and this weeek, we are CASE-ing the amazing Therese Calvrid - her designs are amazing and her colouring skills blow me away every time. You can find Therese at Lost In Paper and she also has a great YouTube channel. Here is the card that Therese is challenging us to CASE - along with a description about how she made it:

Card Deets

• A6 topfold landscape (finished size 10.5cm X 15cm)
• Cut another piece of cardstock to the same size and add wide watercolour stripes added withAltenew Peach Perfect (diluted with water and painted).
• Die cut a dot edge on the vellum with Paper Smooches – Dots & Dashes wise die. And adhere this on an angle and behind the top of the panel and fold over the front of the card. Cut off the excess edges on each side. (I added some tape behind where the flowers were going to be). Adhere this panel to card front with atg.
• White emboss the sentiment from Altenew’s Magnolias for Her.
• Stamp X 2 flowers and X 3 leaves from Altenews Beautiful Day (inks – MFT Hybrid Steel Gray / Sour Apple – Dye inks Limelight / Coral Crush / Peach Bellini) Die cut these and use double sided tape to add them to the card front. Pop up the top flower only with foam tape.

Here is my CASE of Therese's card:

I was really inspired by the watercolour stripes in the background and was very inspired to play around with those. I had an unopened set of shimmer watercolours that I picked up for a vary good price at Michael's a little while ago - so broke them out and started playing. I actually created about 4 shimmery and stripey backgrounds! I made this one into a card by die cutting the panel with a rectangle die, and adding some Lil Inker flowers that I had heat embossed with Liquid Platinum onto vellum and fussy cut. I used the same shimmer watercolour to colour in the Lil Inker "thanks" die cut which was stacked up for some dimension. A few sparkling clear sequins to add even more sparkle and shimmer to the card!

TIME OUT #59 Reminder - Masculine Cards

We are now in the second week of our theme challenge at TIME OUT - focusing on those 'sometimes difficult' Masculine Cards.  In addition to making them masculine, we would also love to see some mixed media cards in the gallery so we are doing an optional twist of mixed media.

This week, I went with the mixed media twist - here is my card:

I have to admit that the inspiration for this card was heavily influenced by Debbie Hughes - and a card she made a while back where she thought this Crazy Cat looked a little tipsy - I loved that idea and played off it.

I started out by applying some embossing paste to the card front thorough the Artplorations Retro Circles stencils - I thought that it would reflect the head spinny feel of my tipsy Crazy Cat. I used the Crazy Cats stamps and dies as well as the Crazy Things stamp (for the hat) - and I coloured them with Copics. I added the die cuts with some foam squares to pop them up. The greeting is from the Avery Elle More Party Animals stamp set - how perfect is it for this image!!! I added the dashed lines to ground the image, and finally, I added some Studio Calico wood veneer stars around the cat's head and some Glossy Accents to his eyes to complete the tipsy look, I am really happy with how this turned out - and I may make a couple more like it because I can think of a few men in my life who would appreciate it :)

TIME OUT #59 - Masculine Cards

Here is my masculine card for the week - what could be more masculine than wood grain and metal?! Just like being in the workshop!

This full cover plate die from Memory Box is one of my favourites (I also have the Christmas version!). I die cut a piece of white cardstock which I then embossed with a wood grain tPTI texture plate. I then used the same die to cut the words from sheets of foil cardstock (gold, silver, and copper) - and inlaid the words into the white panel. I love the way this one turned out :)

TIME OUT #58 Reminder

There is still another week to play along with our current photo inspiration Home Sweet Home challenge at Time Out. Here is the photo:

Last week, I took my inspiration from the stained glass squares - and this week those squares were still inspiring me :)

This is one of those cards that went in a few different directions as it was coming together, and almost ended up in the wastebasket a few times.... but I stuck with it and am ok with the final product. 

I started out by clear embossing the SSS Grid background stamp onto the bottom left corner of the card. I then coloured the squares with my Zigs (trying to use the inspiration photo colours). I added a die cut vellum circle to soften the colours a little bit. The die cut Happy was done with MFT silver foil cardstock using an older (but still favourite!) Studio Calico die. SOme flat silver sequins from my stash seemed the right finishing touch.

TIME OUT #58 - Home Sweet Home

We have another photo inspiration Home Sweet Home challenge this week at Time Out, and Sandie has worked her magic and chosen another wonderful photo to inspire us:

Lots of fun elements in this photo - bricks, arches, colours - so many directions this could be taken! I was inspired by the stained glass squares and this is what I came up with:

OK- I admit that I photographed it flat because I didn't do a great job of filling my shaker windows with microbeads - here is the standing up version:

I used a memory box die to create the shaker window in both the card panel and the card front - and the fun foam in between - to create a "window" effect. The die cut greeting is from Winnie and Walter. 

And since I didn't want to waste the die cut pieces so I created two more cards:

                       

We also have a wonderful guest designer this week - Karren from Stamping Stuff has such a great style - I just love her clean designs!

TIME OUT #57 - Inspired By Words

This week at TIME OUT, we are asking you to be inspired by the words:

'May All your weeds be wild flowers'

This quote is is perfect for the season (as I am waging war on the dandelions in my yard!), and we have a wonderful guest designer, Julia, from der Kleine Klecks, who is sharing some inspiring designs!

Here is my take on the words:

I started out by sponging some Distress Inks onto the card base - normally I use bright colours but this time I went more "earthy" with Wild Honey, Peeled Paint, and Broken China. I splattered the background with some Perfect Pearls. I added a panel die cut with a large stitched rectangle and a large stitched oval with some foam tape to the card base, and then I added in the Memory Box Frangia Bouquet die cut - layering both under and over the oval panel. The Altenew greeting was heat embossed on some vellum for the finishing touch.

TIME OUT - Happy Birthday Sandie!

We are having a special challenge over at Time Out to celebrate the birthday of one of the most wonderful people in blogland, Sandie Munro. Since the challenge is in honour of Sandie, we are asking you to come up with cards that are very CAS (Sandie's style) with the colour purple as an optional twist (her favourite colour). It is going to be a lot of fun - and did I mention that it is a surprise for her!

I love Sandie's style - she keeps her designs so crisp so I really wanted to try a card in her style - I'm not quite sure I got there....here is the card: 

I used Clearly Besotted's Flight of Fancy (now discontinued but a mini version is still available). I stamped the butterflies in two shades of purple pigment , and I added some Stampendous Kaleidoscope embossing powder while the ink was still wet. This powder is really amazing - you don't see it until it hits the light - and then it is so glittery. I stamped the greeting from the same set and then I ran the card through the Big Shot with a PTI texture plate (I know Sandie loves this one too!).
